What is AI (Artificial Intelligence)?

(This answer is taken from my book Innovate the Next: Success Frameworks to Innovating Products in Any Revolution). Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence by computers and machines. It is your phone simply being able to discern whether it’s you or an unauthorised intruder. This is done via an inbuilt sensor which requires a validated fingerprint for access.

The technology here is a simple fusion of sensors and programming. If someone besides the validated owner tried to unlock the phone with their fingerprint, it wouldn’t allow access because the reading would not correspond with the originally programmed one.

It is a case of fusion and convergence also.

Today AI is used in personal assistants like Apple’s Siri (fusion of word recognition and vocal response programming) and autonomous cars which are programmed to use sensors to discern objects on the roads (fusion of sensors and programming).
